Not a particularly exciting day today. spent the whole morning reading this document which was so difficult to understand fully due to the legal terms. then went to the bankers' meeting. the drama only started when the so-called new "investor" arrived. he was trying to get the bankers to accomodate the company with more loans with his many stories while the smart bankers tried to make him come up with some corporate guarantee. talking about bankers; many of them don't exactly look like a banker. as in when you walk on the streets and see them, you will probably never think of them as bankers but rather as a normal office person.
a busy day, relatively to the first. at least i was kept occupied throughout the day. in the morning, we went to the new supreme court. it looks cool and high tech and so the issue between the new and old supreme court is something like our national library argument. went to the chambers as it was to only file OS but we waited for close to two hours when we stayed in the chamber for less than five minutes?! but it was said that the judges tend to be nicer when interns are around and so pl was quite glad that i was there haha. i probably contributed to the short time we were in the chamber and that translates into less scolding. it's quite amusing to see the judges scold lawyers and that happened during my next hearing at the subordinate court. we were the prosecuters for a case in which a guy practised tcm using a fake certificate. it's sort of an almost sure-win case for us but it's weird that the accused refuse to plead guilty. and so it dawned onto me that should i enter law, i might as well aim to be a judge so i can scold people haha. it's also important to aim to be a lawyer with real substance and not like some other useless lawyers(our opposition is an example).
First day today. typical first day with nothing to do. seriously, another new intern and i slacked the whole day away in front of the computer, surfing websites, (most are prohibited, even yahoo movies!) chatting and finding all means to keep ourselves occupied. my new colleagues are very nice though! they treated us to a thai restaurant at boat quay and after lunch, we still had time to go tcc for coffee. look at the lifestyle of lawyers. lunch took close to two hours. it was fun talking to them though, know more about the process of studying law and they also gave opinions as to what courses to take up in future.
Met up with tyunn, weiqi and jane today to have dinner at glutton's bay. it's quite a nice place to eat; refreshing; something different from your usual shopping centre restaurants. there's this cute dish called "happy pot". it's this huge clay pot which has soup and you can throw in noodles, vegetables, meat and whatsoever that you ordered into it. delicious and the best part is? the soup is free-flow! the guy was quite nice too, helped us to set it up and even used tissue paper to stabilise our rocking table.
Second driving lesson! today was basically a bending lesson. drove to the more deserted upper thomson area. it's a really good place to practise bends. seriously the entire route was nothing but bends. so now i'm more confident when it comes to bends as previously i was afraid of "over-steering". but i still can't do turns so i just have to practise more. next lesson will be gears time!
I finally get to go out after being cooped up at home for two days and literally bored to tears. dinner at sun and moon with boon and lian. nice place with nice-looking food. but since i have limited income for the time being, i can't splurge too much on food. still the food that we ordered were quite good. it's something like claypot rice without the dark sauce.
got a last minute assignment as a receptionist at sc bank. the generous bank actually paid me $7.50 per hour to answer phonecalls to make bookings for the meeting rooms. since the phonecalls are not incessant, half the time i was either staring at the computer screen or looking around. and i got to help myself to the fridge full of drinks haha. and now i know how to use microsoft access (at least the bare minimal) so chia tyunn, don't u dare laugh at me. it was quite an interesting experience but i can't imagine doing that for months man, it's too... sedented, not my cup of tea haha. and i actually got to witness office politics on the first day- is that cool or is it cool? haha
I had my first driving lesson today! it's super fun. and guess what, first lesson only and i got to drive on the road- from braddell to clementi and back. wonder how i got to do that? it's because the car is specially fitted: at the front passenger seat, the accelerator, brake and clutch are also installed. so the driving instructor is able to intercept the student anytime. cool isn't it. and my driving instructor is quite interesting; his mantra is to teach students how to "fly" first, which means to drive on the road before teaching them about the gear stuff. and he said that the circuit is for sleeping haha. this is the beauty of private instructor :)
Served at the children's ministry for the first time today. it was quite an amazing experience as it has been a long time since i actually spent time with children. and i do not exactly like children. so i got to learn how to communicate with them: pokemon and maplestory language. came across all kinds of children- those who love talking to teachers (i'm one of them :)), those who fight, those who are shy and those who really talk a lot. and as the service proceeded, somehow i continuously plunged into deep thoughts and realised that such thinking was quite rare; thoughts which brought further thoughts. it was pretty tiring but somehow i find that talking to kids is so much easier talking to people of your age. you can talk to them about anything and the best part is you don't need to think and give politically correct answers. it has been a good choice to serve the children :)
When you're perplexed, let him be your Wonderful Counselor.
this is so irritating. everyone is working and there's only me who's trying very hard to keep myself occupied everyday- like watching vcds. even my biological clock has gone haywire: i sleep at 9pm! can you believe it?? it's like the earliest time i've ever slept in somewhat ten thousand years. and i wake up at 5am. and the whole cycle happens again- vcds, eat, read, sleep. i have been looking for jobs and i applied for like 4 positions at one go. it's just none of them are efficient enough to reply by the next day. maybe i should just do what wong suggests: go train to be tai-tai of the future.
I took photo with my Prince Charming! he won the inter-jc pageant and was crowned the king! yay! seriously he's tall, suave, gentlemanly, the PERFECT guy to bring home who will get parents' approval :)
